            Since 2008, PechaKucha Night Cleveland has been organizing events to better connect the various creative communities throughout the region. Michael Christoff, who cofounded PKN Cleveland with Raseem Parker in 2008, talks about why ten years later, he still loves loves it and hopes to continue bringing people together to share their stories and creative energy.

            Dr. Sara Laskey was named the first Chief Patient Experience Officer at Cleveland’s MetroHealth System in late 2013. In this position, Dr. Laskey is responsible for the leadership, design, and implementation of initiatives that fulfill the patient-centered mission and vision of MetroHealth. She also oversees the departments of Volunteer Services, Patient Relations, Survivor Recovery Services and Arts in Medicine.  In her “spare time” she is a practicing emergency physician in Metro’s level one trauma center and emergency department.

            Books as Acts of Overcoming

            Karen Long was the book editor of The Plain Dealer. Now she manages the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards – the only juried prize for the best books each year that confront racism and celebrate diversity. Karen works at the Cleveland Foundation and is a literary critic. In this presentation, she make the case that books themselves can be acts of overcoming.

            Crazy vs Courageous

            Jennie Ludwig is a licensed clinical counselor and has been working in the mental health field for the last 12 years.  She currently works at Connections, a behavioral health agency in northeast ohio, as a director of clinical services.  Jennie is passionate about wanting to help others understand and recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness.

            The Ones that Got Away

But not all of these projects came to fruition and he strongly believes that even the projects that don’t get built matter. He is passionate about how art can transform experiences and has any amazing story about the rapid transit line in Cleveland and its transformation into a veritable art gallery.

            Our Role in Conservation

            Vicki Searles is the Director of Conservation Education at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.  Her two passions are spending time with her family and serving our community by connecting people with nature and wildlife. She has worked at The Columbus Zoo, Zoo Atlanta the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and has been lucky enough to be involved in community based conservation in Asia, South America, Central America, and North America.

            Giving Animals Choice

            Michael Murray is the Associate Curator of Animals at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and is extremely passionate about giving animals choice to enrich their lives. These enrichment programs encourage animals to connect with their natural behaviors and behaviors that allow the zookeepers to care for the animals.

            The Importance of Free Play

            Karen Katz has 18 years of experience developing and designing exhibits. Her BA in Anthropology and MFA in Museum Exhibition Planning and Design earned her the position as the Director of Exhibits for the Cleveland Children's Museum. But it was her experience as a parent that taught her the importance of free play which amplified her ability to design truly impactful exhibits for children.
